Cattle Health Recommendations
The bulls in this operation are the most important
portion in this herd health system. The bulls should be kept with
the cows for breeding for only a specific period of time. A breeding
soundness exam (BSE) should be done for each bull 30 to 60 days prior
to the breeding season, and the bull to cow ratio should be around
1 bull to 25 cows.
There are two calving seasons:
- Spring
Calving Season: February 1 to April 15(turn-in bulls from May 1
to July 10)
- Fall Calving Season: August 1 to October 15 (turn-in bulls
from Nov. I to Jan 10)
