Pet Care Responsibilities

There is nothing in this world more adorable than a newborn pup or kitten. A kitten playing with its mother's tail or a puppy pulling on a rag as if it were a bear, can capture the attention and be a real source of entertainment. This enjoyment can turn into real tragedy when these little ones are disposed on the side of a road like trash. The pups and kittens are defenseless against the elements. These little animals need shelter, food and water to survive. However, they have yet to develop the skills necessary to survive. Many succumb to diseases such as parvo virus and parasites. Most become victims of starvation, Some of the more fortunate puppies and kittens are placed into animal
shelters. These shelters provide shelter and food. A few are even placed into loving homes. But, the reality for most in the shelters is euthanasia because of lack of available homes. Hundreds of thousands of pets are humanely put to death in shelters in the United States every year. I know that I have painted a bleak picture. The intent is not to depress you but to motivate you to

do your part. We can all help this situation by spaying and neutering our household dogs and cats. If everyone would cooperate, these simple procedures can do more to help the staggering numbers of unwanted puppies and kittens. If you find yourself with dogs and cats that you can no longer care for, don't just drop them off. Responsibly, take them to a shelter to give them a chance at adoption. If there is no local shelter, seek others that are interested and form a local organization to care for the unwanted animals. Please remember that God created this world and everything in it. He has given us the responsibility to care for it and the creatures.
